Welcome to the Northern Territory’s annual short film competition.
Please read the following guidelines very carefully – we wouldn’t want all your hard work making a film going to waste because it didn’t fulfil the entry requirements!

Conditions of Entry
In order for your entry to qualify for inclusion in Fist Full of Films it must adhere to the following conditions:

  • Principal creators of entries, must have been NT residents for at least 6 months at 30 June 2008 or

If the principal creator is not a resident of the Northern Territory, the film must have been shot in the Northern Territory. This means that we must be able to see obvious Territory locations

  • The Keyword for 2008 Fist Full of Films is Play. This year the keyword is OPTIONAL, so you can use the keyword or ignore it as you wish
  • Entries must not have been screened publicly prior to FFF screenings
  • Maximum length of entries, including credits, is 7 minutes;
  • All entries must be submitted on MiniDV tape for screening purposes AND on a DVD for judging
  • There is no limit to the number of entries you submit (as long as they’re all different!)
  • Entries must be accompanied by a print quality (300dpi min 6x4cm) still from the film for publicity purposes and a 20 word or less synopsis of your film
  • Entries must not infringe copyright. All music used must have permission from the licence holders (for more information see www.apra.com.au).
  • Entries must be received or postmarked no later than 5pm 30 June 2007. Hand delivery to Brown’s Mart Community Arts, corner of Smith St and Harry Chan Avenue, Darwin, NT. Postal deliveries to GPO Box 2429, Darwin, NT, 0801.
  • Fist Full of Films and Brown’s Mart Community Arts will not be held liable for any loss or damage to entries submitted. Please do not submit the original – send a copy!
  • Entrants implicitly accept FFF and BMCA’s right to screen entries in full or in part as part of promotion of Fist Full of Films short film competition and/or screenings and to upload their entry on to the FFF website

NB.    Entrants who do not accept and adhere to the above will not be eligible for judging.

Judging

  • Entries to Fist Full of Films will be short listed by the Fist Full of Films Selection Panel before being submitted to the FFF Judging Panel, a group of nationally and internationally respected Australian film industry professionals.
  • Finalists will be notified by 30 July 2008.
  • Judges’ decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into.
  • Judges will select a winner for the

Youth Film Award ($250)
Best Film Award ($1,000)
N.T Tourism Award ($7-10,000 to make your next film).
People’s Choice ($1000) will be awarded according to votes cast at Darwin screenings

Another six entries will receive Galah Awards, chosen from among the following categories:

  • Best Screenplay
  • Best Soundtrack
  • Best Actor (male or female)
  • Best Cinematography
  • Best Editing
  • Best Direction
  • Best Comedy
  • Best Animation
  • Best Drama
  • Best Documentary
  • Best Youth Entry (Principal creator must be aged 18 or under)

Other Galah Award-winners receive cash or in-kind prizes, and/or film and television industry facilities access and training opportunities courtesy of our industry supporters. Details are yet to be confirmed.

Screenings

FFF finalists will be screened at the Fist Full of Films Galah Awards Premiere on 5 August 2008 (venue to be announced), and a second screening at the Mindil Beach Markets on Sunday 10 August. Subsequent screenings will follow as part of the FFF Regional Screenings Tour, with dates in Katherine (as part of the Flying Fox Festival), Tennant Creek, Nhulunbuy and Alice Springs to be announced.
