Welcome to the Northern Territory’s annual short film competition.

Short Film & Music ClipCompetition 2010

Please read the following guidelines very carefully – we wouldn’t want all your hard work making a film going to waste because it didn’t fulfil the entry requirements!

Please Note - Entrants who do not accept and adhere to the Terms & Conditions of Entry
will not be eligible for judging. Late entries will not be accepted.

If your film does not meet the entry requirements it may be suitable to screen at the Territory Screen Showcase, so send it to FFF by mid May for consideration.

Conditions of Entry – Short Films
In order for your entry to qualify for inclusion in Fist Full of Films it must adhere to the following conditions:
• Principal creators of entries, must have been NT residents for at least 6 months prior to 1 May 2010 or
• If the principal creator is not a resident of the Northern Territory, the film must have been shot in the Northern Territory. This means that we must be able to see obvious Territory locations.
• The Keyword or Key Object for 2010 Fist Full of Films is SPLASH. The use of the keyword or object is OPTIONAL, so you can use the keyword or ignore it as you wish.
• We prefer that entries have not been screened publicly in the NT prior to FFF screenings
• Maximum length of entries, including credits, is 7 minutes. If your film comes in under 10 minutes it still may be considered BUT you must note this on your entry form in bold.
• All entries must be submitted on DVD in a mov. or avi single file, uncompressed file.
This saves us much time when digitalising and compiling entries for the screen program and gives us the best quality version to screen.
• There is no limit to the number of entries you submit (as long as they’re all different!)
• Entries must be accompanied by a print quality (300dpi min 6x4cm) still from the film for publicity and promotional purposes.
• Entrants must provide - a sentence to describe your film and a paragraph short synopsis of your film – as per entry form. These will be used to promote your films so make it good.
• Entries must not infringe copyright. All music used must have permission from the licence holders. (for more information see www.apra.com.au).

Music Clips – original NT made music
• Your music clip should be no longer than 4 minutes.
• The majority of musicians and filmmakers must be Territory residents.
• The production must be carried out in the Territory.
• The musician/band/entrant must hold the copyright of the recording – an original work.

If your music clip is longer than 4 minutes it still may be considered BUT you must note this on your entry form in bold.

DEADLINE – Tuesday May 4 at 5pm – the day after the May Day long weekend.
No late entries will be accepted as we can’t hold up our judging and programming processes
just for your film.

Submit your film on a DVD – export in PAL codex full quality in wide screen or 4 x 3 we prefer widescreen file format. mov. or avi file please.

Hand Delivered
Entries can be hand delivered to Brown’s Mart 12 Smith St Darwin City - During Business Hours
Opposite the Bus Terminal in the Heritage Precinct off Harry Chan Avenue. Look for the Fist Full sign in the Browns mart courtyard. If you can’t get your entry to us before 5PM you must tell us in advance.

By Post
PO Box 728 Nightcliff, Darwin NT 0814 – send you entries by express post to ensure delivery by the deadline. Posted films must reach us no later than the 5th of May. If your entry is coming from the bush you should get it in the post by Thursday 29 April just to make sure it gets to us by the deadline.

By Courier
If you are sending your entry by courier send it to Fist Full of Films, Browns Mart 12 Smith St Darwin City 0800 – attention Dixi Joy Bankier.

By Plane
If you are sending your entry by plane from a community, please let us know which charter company and what time it will arrive and we will go to the airport and collect it.

Please contact FFoF if you have any concerns about getting your entry to Darwin by the deadline.

Fist Full of Films will not be held liable for any loss or damage to entries submitted. Please do not submit the original – send a copy!

YOUR ENTRIES WILL NOT BE RETURNED BUT THEY WILL BE KEPT BY FFF, IN THE FUTURE IF YOU
NEED A COPY OF YOUR FILM WE WILL MAKE THE COPY WE HOLD AVAIILABLE TO YOU.

Entrants implicitly accept FFF right to screen entries in full or in part as part of promotion of Fist Full of Films short film competition and/or screenings. And use the still photograph from your film in promotion or publicity.

I have obtained and can produce these documents on request;
• Music - Permission via a written agreement with the musicians(s) and/or publisher
• Location – I have attained all required permits and permission to use the locations in my film.
• Actors – have knowledge of and agreed to the use of their image and recording within the terms and conditions of entry and signed a contributor release
• Non original works – I have attained permission to use all non original works within the film – eg archival images, graphics, script and music.

Judging
Entries to Fist Full of Films will be short listed by the Fist Full of Films Selection Panel before being submitted to the FFF Judging Panel, a group of nationally and internationally respected NT and Australian film industry professionals.

Finalists will be notified by 25 May 2010.

Judges’ decisions are final and no correspondence will be entered into.

Judges will select a winner for the categories nominated for 2010.

The BEST - Film / Documentary / Comedy / Drama / Music Clip / Animation / Experimental
The BEST - Screen Play / Cinematography / Edit / Sound Design or Original Soundtrack / Actor
The Best use of the Keyword or Key Object – SPLASH / The People’s Choice Galah Awards x 3 as voted by our audiences.

Screenings

Fist Full of Films Festival 3 – 6 June 2010 All screenings are FREE entry

Over 60 entries will be seen on the big screen, the screen program will be available one week before the festival on the website.

Day #1 Thursday 3 June
• 4.30pm – 7.30pm The NT Screen Expo and the FISTIVAL Club
• 7.30pm – 10pm Screening Music Clip entries and selected short film entries
• 10pm – 12am The FISTIVAL Club

Day #2 Friday 4 June
• 4.30pm – 7.30pm The NT Screen Expo and the FISTIVAL Club

Day #3 Saturday 5 June The Galah Awards
• 10am – 12 noon Sessions with Southerners

• 5pm – 7.30pm PREAWARDS cocktails at the FISTIVAL Club
• 7.30pm – 10pm Screening finalist music clips and short films
• 10pm – 11pm Galah Awards Ceremony

Your film may be included in a variety of viewing avenues. On your entry form you are required to tick the boxes of viewing avenues your film may be shown through.
