Fist Full News in Length
Short film competition - Call for entries - $10,000 in prizes
The Territory’s longest running short film festival (since 1999) is calling for entries. There is $10,000 in cash prizes to be won and a heap of Galah Awards up for grabs. Just like the academy awards only different. Now is the time to get out there and make films. No more than 7 minutes in length including the credits. Your film can be on any topic or genre. You can also submit short films that have been made during the previous year or 2, as long as you meet the terms and conditions of entry. The deadline for entries is the 5pm the 4th May 2010.
Our 2010 competition now includes a new prize category – Best MUSIC CLIP. So if you are a muso or band and have a clip that has been made in the past 2 years you can enter it in the competition. If you’re a filmmaker go and find a bunch of musicians to make a music clip with. The catch is you must be a NT based band or muso, the clip must have been made in the NT using NT production people and be no longer than 4 minutes in length. Deadline for entries is 5pm the 4th May 2010.
We have an award for the BEST EXPERIMENTAL film; this is for all you new media or digital artists to get creative too. The keyword or object for 2010 is SPLASH, its use in your film is not compulsory but we challenge you to use it is some special way in your film. There is a Galah Award and a cash prize for the Best Use of the Keyword or Object. There are 15 category awards to win too.
If you can shoot it, edit it and get it in by the deadline you have the chance to win a Galah Award and cash prizes from our generous sponsors. Over 60 films will be screened during FFoFF, 3 – 6 June 2010. So your film has a really good chance to be seen on the big screen in Civic Park. If your film is a finalist it will go into our Territory wide touring screen program. Sharing our stories on the big screen.
Check out our entry form and the terms and conditions of entry and other Fist Full of Films Festival / FFoFF info on the www.fistfulloffilms.com.au website. If you have any concerns about meeting the terms and conditions of entry please don’t hesitate to call Fist Full on 89811495.
SCREEN ARTS
Is the Territory’s new screen resource and development organisation. Fist Full the org reinvented itself into SCREEN ARTS to better serve the filmmakers and screen artists of the NT. Fist Full of Films is now a major project of SCREEN ARTS. And SCREEN ARS will communicate through Fist Full until we get our website up and going next year. Over 2010 we are working hard to improve the climate for creativity and screen works in the NT.
Preview - Fist Full of Films Festival / FFoFF 2010 3 – 6 June
All screenings, the EXPO, forums and sessions are FREE
The 11th annual Fist Full of Films Festival is bigger and better than ever. FFoFF has a new annual date - the first weekend in June and a new location Civic Park and Browns Mart in Darwin City. We will have 3 nights of screening Fist Full entries on the big screen with FREE entry so more people can get a chance to see Territory made films.
The Galah Awards is our night of nights for our filmmakers on Saturday 5 June in Civic Park, with red carpet arrivals, overdressing, and a splattering of VIP’s and industry to mingle with. From 7.30pm we will screen the short film competition and music clip finalist and then a relatively short and painless awards ceremony to announce our Galah Award winners. Then onto Browns Mart for the AFTERAWARDS Party with entertainment and celebratory frivolities.
Our historical theatre complex Browns Mart, named after a grocery store, will be transformed into the FISTIVAL Club for 4 nights, but only 2 days. So before, during and after our screen program the FISTIVAL Club is the place and space where people can eat from the food stalls and drink from the bar, mingle and network. Our MC and guests will stimulate screen culture discussion and film critiques . . . so if you want review any of the films you have seen you can.
The Territory Screen Showcase features films and documentaries made by the Territory screen industry or professional filmmakers, likened to a master’s section, giving our audience the opportunity to view works by our industry professionals and production companies on our 4th night of screenings Sunday the 6th of June.
The NT SCREEN EXPO @ Browns Mart – how to get involved
5pm – 7.30pm on the Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th June.
The NT SCREEN EXPO is for any business that produces any type of screen content. So if you are in the digital, media, TV, web/net, graphics, arts, digital, multimedia, music, marketing or communications business this is the EXPO for you.
If you are a freelancer, or a creative screen artist, a sole trader in any pursuit that relates to screen works this is also the EXPO for you. NT based not-for-profit arts organisations and associations that initiate and contribute to screen production or screen culture in anyway should also get involved.
Here is your chance to set up your own INFORMATION DESK and promote your business and services to potential customers, clients or stakeholders. Or if you just want to come along and NETWORK that’s fine too. And it’s all FREE.
We reckon if we can get a big mob of screen related creative people together in Darwin, we might just be able to prove that we have a vast, vibrant and viable screen industry. The NT SCREEN EXPO is being held over 2 nights of FFoFF from 5pm – 7.30pm Thursday 3 and Friday 4 June. Ideal hours for that after work crowd and it won’t interfere too much with your business hours and weekend FFoFF activities.
Your booked space (around 3x2mtrs) at the SCREEN EXPO is FREE of charge but donations will be gratefully accepted by SCREEN ARTS with receipts or invoices provided. All your EXPO needs are provided by you and all costs to have an info Desk is at your expense, we provide the venue and power. But if you are coming from out bush or interstate we can help you out with some stuff you might need.
Bookings are now being taken for your space at the EXPO, prime position preference will be given to businesses and organisations booking for the 2 nights of the EXPO. If you would like any more information about the EXPO or like to register your interest do it now. Bookings close 30 April. Email fistfulloffilms@brownsmart.com.au or call Dixi on 89811495.
Got a great idea for a film then why don’t you pitch it
@ Pitch it Local Sunday 6 June 3pm-6pm
Do you have an idea for a great film or doco, but have no one to help you make it? Here is your chance to pitch it to locals that may want to get involved and get that film made. Ideally your film or doco concept should be achievable within a very low budget (as finding funding for films is about as hard as finding snow in Timber Creek) and you are able to work with a crew with varied experience, but lots of enthusiasm.
At FFoFF 2010 on Sunday the 6th of June from 3pm – 6pm at Browns Mart, 8 film or doco concepts and their conceivers will get 5 minutes each to pitch their concept and then 15 minutes of Q & A with the audience full of local potential crew and collaborators.
Perfecting the pitch and being prepared for the questions is all important if you ever want to break into the screen industry and have your projects commissioned or financed. Pitching competitions is the way many new filmmakers are breaking into the business and here is your chance to practice the pitch. So Pitch it Local ….and you might just meet the right people who can help you get your film made.
How to submit an idea for Pitch it Local
deadline Friday 30 April
In no more than 2 pages we want you to supply the
• proposed title, intended length of the film and what genre or topics the film covers in just a few words
• then one sentence describing your idea/film
• one paragraph describing your idea/film
• and a one page story outline
• and about half a page of relevant information like what talents or equipment you can bring to the film. Also the reasons why your concept will be possible to make with a limited budget or under various constraints.
• and your contact details too.
Submit your pitch by email to fistfulloffilms@brownsmart.com.au by midnight on Friday the 30th April and our panel will select 8 film concepts to be pitched by you mob at the Pitch it Local forum. Selected concepts will be announced on the Friday 14 May.
If you want some tips about preparing your pitch don’t hesitate to contact Fist Full. If you don’t live in Darwin we want to know your great film idea is out there beyond the Berrimah line. Unfortunately if your idea is selected for the Pitch we are unable to bring you to Darwin, but we do hope you can get here under your own steam.
Are you interested in working on a film?
If you want to get experience working on a film crew here is your chance. If you think one or more of your talents can contribute as a writer, actor, performer, director, producer, production coordinator, logistically or as a set or costume designer, even doing stunts or doing hair and makeup. Or as a musician for the soundtrack or as a camera or sound person and editor, come along to Pitch it Local. One of those film ideas pitched on the day could just be your first film credit. The only condition is if you want to get involved you gotta play like it is a real film crew and see the film thru to completion, cause that’s what real film crews do. And obviously, be willing to work voluntarily.
If you ever want to do paid work in screen production you need work experience and screen credits for your CV. If the NT is ever going to have a thriving screen industry we need people with experience to call on. And Pitch it Local gives you the opportunity to meet a filmmaker with a great idea who needs creative people to help them get the film made. Films with a committed crew and a well developed script and production plan are more likely to find some funding and get a helping hand from SCREEN ARTS. So come along and hear the pitches you might just want to get involved. Sunday 6 June 3pm -6pm Browns Mart
Sessions with Southerners – have you always wanted to know what those entire Australian film organisation do, like the MEAA, ACS, SA, AFTRS, ACC, APRA …and what they can do for you. Well heres your chance to find out because we have invited a heap of them up for FFoFF and we reckon a few of them will show up just so they can meet you. Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 June morning and afternoon sessions.
Get to know your industry – always wanted to know what the screen industry was all about in the NT well here is your chance. We are trying to get together as many mobs in the screen biz or in some way related to the screen biz all together in a big room so you can ask them about what they do and what they can do for you. Saturday 5th June 1pm – 3pm.
The Territory Screen Showcase calls for Territory made films
We are looking for great NT made films that are of any style or genre for our Territory Screen Showcase program. We want audiences to see more of our stories up on the big screen that are not just from the Fist Full competition. We are looking for films that have been made over the past couple of years by a Territorian and preferably in the NT that are under an hour in length. Please call us on 89811495 or email us at fistfulloffilms@brownsmart.com.au if you reckon your film may be suitable for our screen program.
Calling Alice, Tennant and Katherine filmmakers
We want you to get involved too and enter our short film competition. Fist Full of Films 2010 will screen in your neighbourhood late in the dry season. And we always include the films entered from each region in their screen program, so you have a chance to see your film on the big screen too.
Please pass the email on to your creative mates
If you know anyone creative that has any talents they can contribute to filmmaking or works for screens we want them to get on our email list too. Please encourage them to sign up via our website or email us, we want to support them too, especially if you live down the track or out bush.
